How to Remove Cat Urine odors from a carpet
You will need the following Ingredients:
Baking soda
White Vinegar
Diswashing Detergent
3% Hydrogen Peroxide (a)
Water
Follow these steps:
1.Start by placing a towel over the fresh cat urine, step on it and press it down to absorb as much urine as possible. Repeat with a dry towel and rub until no more moisture can be absorbed.
2. Next, wet the area with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water, Make sure you use a sufficient amount of the mix to saturate all the fibres deeply. Allow it to dry, You can speed up the drying by using a fan and rubbing with a towel. The vinegar will negate the ammonia and the baking powder will take away the odor of the cat urine.
3. When dry, cover the over the cat urine spot with a good amount of baking soda and sprinkle it with a quarter of a cup of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a teaspoon of diswashing detergent. Rub it into the capet with your fingers (wear rubber gloves) or use a scrub brush to dissolve the baking soda and work it down into the carpet. Let it dry.
Then vacuum.
Caution:
Never ever use ammonia or an ammonia-based products to cleanse a carpet. The smell of ammonia may bring cats to that spot and will incite cats to urinate there.
For places which have been heavily urinated upon, repeat the above as many times as necessary to completely remove the odor.
(a) Important, make sure to test your carpet for color fastness in a small corner for 24 hours. Use only 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (we can not be held responable for any dammage to your carpet, remember test first)
Although it will not have as good an effect you can replace the hydrogen peroxide with water if you doubt the color fastness of your carpet.
